PTA Reflections Winners
Reflections is a national competition that Parent Teacher Associations select at the individual school sites, moving the winners to District, Regional, State and National Divisions. The Laurel Elementary School is honoring the students that have submitted their visions for this year's topic by exhibiting their writings, visual art, music and dance. Please come and be amazed by the students.
Artwork created by your artists for the 2019-2019 Laurel PTA Reflections Contest will be shown at the Whittier Art Gallery, January 10th-12th. The Reflections Contest has been promoted by the National PTA for 50 years. This year's theme, "Heroes Around Me" seeks to challenge students to question their own definition of "hero" and to come up with original art projects that reflect their ideas. Students at Laurel School entered creative projects in the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Photography, and Visual Arts.
This year's entries were judged by local arts professionals who are practicing artist, curators and educators. Judging was based on three major criteria, interpretation of the theme, creativity, and technique. The judges were Lydia Michelle Espinoza and Ed Gomez. Awards will be given at the January 11th reception that will be held at the Gallery from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.
