Membership Terms & Conditions
Effective Date: July 14, 2025
1. INTRODUCTION
These Terms and Conditions (“Agreement”) govern the relationship between Whittier Art Gallery (“Gallery”) and all individuals who apply for and maintain an active membership. The Gallery offers three categories of membership: Student, Artist, and Friend of the Gallery. By enrolling, you agree to these terms.
2. MEMBERSHIP TYPES & ELIGIBILITY
2.1 Artist Membership – $45/year
- Open to artists 18 years of age or older.
- Artist Members may submit artwork for juried exhibitions and the Gift Gallery, subject to submission guidelines.
- Artist Members receive a reduced entry fee for juried shows.
- Artist Members receive the Gallery’s bimonthly newsletter, Sketches.
2.2 Friend of the Gallery Membership – $35/year
- Open to any individual 18 years or older who supports the arts.
- Friends are encouraged to attend and enjoy gallery receptions, events, and programs.
- Friend Members receive the Gallery’s bimonthly newsletter, Sketches.
- No portfolio or artistic background is required.
2.3 Student Membership – $25/year
- Open to high school or college students 18 years or older.
- Student Members may submit work for juried shows and the Gift Gallery, and pay reduced entry fees.
- Student Members receive the Gallery’s bimonthly newsletter, Sketches.
- Students aged 13–17 may apply with written permission from a parent or legal guardian and approval by the Gallery’s Board of Directors. Proof of enrollment may be required.
3. MEMBERSHIP TERMS & RENEWALS
3.1 Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of enrollment or renewal.
3.2 Fees are non-refundable and subject to change with notice.
3.3 Renewal reminders will be sent via email or postal mail before the expiration date.
3.4 A 30-day grace period is offered after expiration. Lapsed members may lose access to benefits if payment is not received.
4. CONDUCT & PARTICIPATION
4.1 Members are expected to uphold the Gallery’s values of respect, creativity, and community engagement.
4.2 The Gallery may revoke membership for any behavior that is harassing, discriminatory, disruptive, or damaging to its reputation.
4.3 All members must follow Gallery rules while attending events or submitting work.
5. EXHIBITIONS, EVENTS & SALES
For Artist & Student Members:
5.1 Artwork submissions for juried exhibitions or the Gift Gallery are subject to curation and must meet professional display standards.
5.2 Submission does not guarantee selection.
5.3 A commission may be retained by the Gallery on sold works; terms are provided for each exhibition.
5.4 Artist and Student Members grant the Gallery the right to use submitted artwork images for promotion.
For All Members:
5.5 Members are welcome to attend gallery receptions, lectures, workshops, and community events.
5.6 Some events may require advance registration or an additional fee.
5.7 Event behavior must align with the Gallery’s code of conduct and community standards.
6. LIABILITY & INSURANCE
6.1 The Gallery is not liable for lost, stolen, or damaged property or artwork.
6.2 Artists are encouraged to insure their work while it is on display or in transit.
7. PRIVACY & COMMUNICATION
7.1 Member information is used solely for Gallery communication and administration.
7.2 By joining, members consent to receive emails and mailings from the Gallery.
7.3 Members may request to unsubscribe or update their contact information at any time.
8. TERMINATION & AMENDMENTS
8.1 Members may cancel their membership at any time; fees are non-refundable.
8.2 The Gallery reserves the right to terminate a membership for violations of these terms.
8.3 Terms, fees, or benefits may be updated with reasonable notice provided to members.
9. GOVERNANCE & MEETINGS
9.1 The Whittier Art Gallery is governed according to its official Bylaws, which incorporate Robert’s Rules of Order for all formal meetings and decision-making processes.
9.2 Membership in any category does not automatically confer voting rights or access to board meetings, unless specifically stated in the Bylaws.
9.3 When applicable, member meetings, forums, or advisory sessions shall follow Robert’s Rules of Order to ensure transparency and fairness.
10. AGREEMENT ACKNOWLEDGMENT
